Phototropism—the tendency of plants to grow toward the sun—is a metaphor for living. This ceaseless movement toward warmth, and the absorption of energy. Going from bewilderment and delusion, to clarity and joy.

Life never starts from nowhere. Residing deep within it are inherent capacities, enveloped by a hostile yet loving world—a ground from which all things spring forth.

Life process followed by a death process; another state transition to be sure. Where does this energy go, this accumulation of tendencies? This grand unanswerable; always so close at hand, but somehow distant.
